Special
Nighttime Treat
Just wait
until it gets dark.
You have never seen so many
stars. Sit outside for
a while. Watch for
satellites moving across the
sky. Occasionally,
you will see a shooting
star. |

Wildlife Tracks |
|
Wildlife
tracks are everywhere. The
photo to the right is
an elk track. It is very
common to see elk, deer,
antelope, and lots of other
animals on your property and in this area.
Occasionally, you may even
see an American Bald Eagle
flying around. |

mountain range in the

La Veta
Pass is in this direction
and provides highway access
over the mountain range.
Highway 160 eventually takes
you back to I-25.
If you
look hard, you will see the
home of a distant
neighbor. Electrical
power lines run to the
neighbor's property. |
|
This is a
closer view of the nearby
hills. They were
formed millions of years ago
by lava. Some of the lava
stones are beautiful works
of art.

Chamisa Bush
 |
During late summer and
early fall the Chamisa bush
is covered with small yellow
flowers.
Found on
your property and growing
all over the San Luis
Valley, the Chamisa bush, also known as
rabbit bush, is a colorful
addition to your property.
The bush can grow as
tall
as 3 feet, but is
usually shorter on your
property -- less than 18
inches.
There are many other plants
and flowers that grow
naturally on your property.

Sage
Brush
 |
The air is also filled with
the wonderful aroma of sage.
Sage brush grows on your
land. This is one wildlife
attraction. Sage brush is a
source of food. Sage brush
also provides the numerous
rabbits a hiding place. |
|
Hummingbirds |
|
The area
has two beautiful
hummingbird species, the
Broad-tailed (right) and the
Rufous (below-left).
These
amazing tiny birds that can fly like
a helicopter and grow to
only 3-4 inches in size.
During
the summer, you can
attract hummingbirds to your
property with a hummingbird
feeder like the ones shown
below. |

The
following photographs will
help to give you an idea of
the incredible beauty of the
San Luis Valley -- the area
where your property is
located.
|
 |
| During the
winter months,
especially after
a fresh
snowfall, the
elk will migrate
out of the
mountains into
the San Luis
Valley to graze
the easily
obtainable
grass. They also
love to eat
alfalfa in the
farm fields. |

experience true country
living. There are much fewer
tourists. No crowded
resorts. Relax, enjoy a
slower pace of life.

The above and below
photographs were taken
northeast of your property,
between the towns of Blanca
and Fort Garland. This is an
